Sustainability - Chef Works

Commitment to a Greener World

At Chef Works, we’re just as committed as our customers to sustainability in the hospitality industry as well as our own business.

Chef Works recognises our responsibility to conduct our business in a way which helps the environment and the communities we serve. Through our company-wide “Commitment to a Greener World”, we are dedicated to continuously improving our performance and reducing our impact on the environment.

As a family-owned and operated business since the 1960s, we believe in creating meaningful relationships with everyone who contributes to Chef Works both locally and internationally. Innovation, sustainability and the dignity of labour are values woven into the fabric of our company.

It’s important to us and our customers that the environmental impact of our manufacturing and purchasing decisions are taken into consideration and that the mills and factories we work with globally are responsible manufacturers who comply with their domestic environmental laws.

Packaging

We’ve invested in a new packaging solution that is revolutionising our reliance on soft plastic by using poly bags made from 100 percent recycled materials and shipping all orders in mail satchels made from 100 percent recycled materials. By the end of 2023, all new Chef Works products will be packaged in recycled materials, it will take some time to phase out older stock which was pre-packaged before the new poly bags were created.

Recycled Fabrics

More recently, we’re proud to launch our new sustainable range RE: crafted using a distinctive blend of cotton and REPREVE®, the world’s leading brand of recycled performance polyester material. This fabric, which comes with U Trust™ certification, is made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles. Using recycled instead of virgin polyester produces fewer carbon emissions as well as giving plastic bottles a second life and keeping them out of oceans and landfill. Chef Works’ sustainable range Re: combines comfort, durability and functionality while reducing our - and your - footprint on our planet. Click here to check out Re: range

Uniform Recycling

In Australia, Chef Works has joined Textile Recycling Australia’s uniform recycling program to introduce a pathway for the hospitality industry to keep their old and unwanted garments out of landfill. If you have Check Works items you would like to recycle please email us at  customer_sales@chefworks.com.au

People First Manufacturing

In 2022, Chef Works partnered with Arbella Fashion, to launch a state-of-the-art factory in Bangladesh to solely produce Chef Works apparel. It is important to us that this factory is not only environmentally conscious but is a safe and secure place for people to work. We are proud this factory has achieved the highest credentials in safety and social compliance (WRAP and BSCI Certified), as well as being fully LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design)-certified.

Supporting Community

In addition to the factory, Chef Works funded a nearby community centre to serve as a hub for local team members, their families, and loved ones. Arbella employees can access medical and mental health services with full-time medical staff, childcare while at work, creative, educational and cultural programs and social activities. Our goal is knitting kinship - we believe in providing a thriving, inclusive, and safe environment for all, where people can spend quality time together and enjoy fulfilling and meaningful experiences.
